Participants should make their own arrangements directly with the hotel of their choice. Special discounted rates were negotiated with the hotels listed below. Quoted rates are exclusive of applicable state and local taxes, currently 16.9%, and other hotel fees may apply. Housing Warning

Housing Warning: Please beware of aggressive housing bureaus that target potential participants of a meeting. They are sometimes called "room poachers" or "room-block pirates" and these companies generally position themselves as a meeting's housing bureau, convincing participants to unknowingly book outside the official room blocks. They call people who they think will more likely than not attend a meeting and lure them with room rates that are significantly less than the published group rate---for a limited time only. People who find this offer tempting may hand over their credit card data, believing they have scored a great rate and their housing is a done deal. Unfortunately, this often turns out to be the start of a long, costly nightmare.

Note that some of these room poachers create fake websites on which they represent themselves as the organizers of the meeting and include links to book rooms, etc. The only official website for this meeting is ams.org and one that has the official AMS logo.

These housing bureaus are not affiliated with the American Mathematical Society or any of its meetings, in any way. The AMS would never call anyone to solicit reservations for a meeting. The only way to book a room at a rate negotiated for an AMS Sectional Meeting is via a listing on these pages or in the Notices of the AMS. The AMS cannot be responsible for any damages incurred as a result of hotel bookings made with unofficial housing bureaus.

Registration and Meeting Information

In an effort to spread the cost of the sectional meetings more equitably among all who attend and hence help keep registration fees low, you must be registered for a sectional meeting in order to submit an abstract for that meeting. You will be prompted to register on the Abstracts Submission Page.

Registration fees help support a wide range of activities associated with planning, organizing, and conducting these meetings.

In the event that your abstract is not accepted or you have to cancel your participation in the program due to unforeseen circumstances, your registration fee will be reimbursed.

Register online and follow these steps:

  1. After clicking on "Register," you will be asked to enter your email address, and then log in to your account, or create a web account if you do not already have one. This only requires a username (email address), password, name, and address. If you already have a web account with us, please log in with your username (email address) and password. Please make sure that the email address that you are using is current, as we will send any pertinent updates to this email.
  2. Once you create and/or login to the account, continue on to register for the meeting. The same username and password may be used to register for all future sectional meetings.

Registering someone else: If you are planning to register someone else, verify that that person has an AMS web account. If they do not have a web account, please have them go to Register for a web account, or email AMS Customer Service to create one. You do not have to be a member to have an AMS web account. It is also possible that an AMS member does not have a web account, if they have never shopped at our bookstore, or registered online for a meeting. Ask for the email address associated with their web account, and use this to register them. When you click on the registration form, choose "Register Someone Else." Please first login with your personal AMS web account. If you do not have one, please create one. Enter the email address associated with your account, and then your password. If will ask you if you want to register someone else, or yourself. Click "someone else," and enter the email address belonging to the person’s web account. Click on the green box that says "Check." Choose the person, and continue the registration.

We hope that you will find this system easy to use. Once your information is in our system, you will not have to enter your information for any future sectional meetings, unless it has changed, thus making your registration faster and easier. Cancellations: Participants may cancel registrations made in advance by emailing the Mathematics Meetings Service Bureau. 100% refunds will be issued for any advance registrations cancelled by the end of the day (11:59 EDT) on March 17, 2023. After this date, no refunds will be issued for this meeting. However, if the AMS cancels this meeting or converts it to a virtual meeting with different fees, 100% refunds will be issued to every registered participant.

Room Locations On-site: The Registration Desk will be located in the lobby of the Skiles Building on Saturday 7:30 am – 10:00 am and then in the lobby on the second floor of Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, 260 4th Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30332, for the rest of the meeting. The AMS Book Exhibit will be located in the lobby on the first floor of Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons throughout the meeting. Invited Addresses will be held in Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Room 152. Special Sessions and Contributed Paper Sessions will be held in Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons and the Skiles Building. A campus map can be viewed here.

Information about gender-neutral restrooms will be provided at the meeting.

Registration Desk: The registration desk will be open on Saturday, March 18, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, March 19, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. This meeting is cashless. The same fees listed above apply for registration during the meeting and are payable with check or credit card. Please note that the only way to register for this meeting is online, before or during the meeting. If you register by March 14, you may pick up your pre-printed badge at the desk. After this date, please show your receipt at the registration desk, and there will be materials available for you to make a badge. The registration desk will be located in the lobby on the first floor of Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons.

Reception: The Georgia Institute of Technology School of Mathematics will host a reception in honor of the Erdős Lecturer on Saturday, March 18, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, at the Academy of Medicine, located at 875 W Peachtree Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. The Academy of Medicine is approximately a 15-minute walk (.8 miles) from Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. Transportation to the reception will be provided by bus from the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons.  Please follow the signs at the meeting.

Well-Being Protocols

Please note that the AMS will practice health and safety protocols that reflect its commitment to the well-being of all participants at the AMS sectional meetings this spring. Everyone attending the meeting (including staff and volunteers) is requested to be fully vaccinated or be willing to attest to a negative PCR or Antigen COVID-19 test that will ensure that they will not be infected during the meeting. If they take a PCR test, it must be taken within 72 hours of their arrival to the meeting. If they take an Antigen test, it must be taken within 24 hours of their arrival to the meeting. Everyone should be prepared to attest to their wellness status upon arrival and if appropriate, show proof of a negative test result.

During check-in, everyone will be asked to complete a brief form to attest to their current wellness. Wearing a mask is optional and will be based on individual comfort levels. Extra masks will be available at the registration desk, while quantities last.

If anyone tested positive for COVID-19 within 72 hours before coming to the meeting, they should not come to the meeting. If anyone tests positive for COVID-19 during the meeting, they should leave the meeting immediately.

Child Care Grants

The AMS will provide a limited number of reimbursement grants of US\$125 per family to help with the cost of child care for registered participants at the meeting. The funds may be used for any form of child care that frees a parent to participate more fully in the meeting. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family, and one per season (i.e. Spring or Fall), the latter depending on the amount of grants available. Registration for the meeting as well as membership in the AMS is required to apply for this program.

AMS Policy on a Welcoming Environment

The AMS strives to ensure that participants in the Sectional Meetings enjoy a welcoming environment. In all its activities, the AMS seeks to foster an atmosphere that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas. The AMS supports equality of opportunity and treatment for all participants, regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion or religious belief, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disabilities, or veteran status.

Harassment is a form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the AMS, and its activities and missions.

The AMS will make every effort to maintain an environment that is free of harassment, even though it does not control the behavior of third parties. A commitment to a welcoming environment is expected of all participants of AMS activities, including mathematicians, students, guests, staff, contractors and exhibitors, and participants in scientific sessions and social events. To this end, the AMS will include a statement concerning its expectations towards maintaining a welcoming environment in registration materials for the Sectional Meetings, and has put in place a mechanism for reporting violations. Violations may be reported confidentially and anonymously to 855-282-5703 or on the website. The reporting mechanism ensures the respect of privacy while alerting the AMS to the situation.

MathSafe

MathSafe is a program by and for the mathematical community to support safe and welcoming meetings. MathSafe volunteers will be available at the meeting to listen to and guide participants who experience harassing behavior.

Code of Conduct

Disruptions: The American Mathematical Society (AMS) is committed to upholding the professional and educational purposes of its meetings and conferences. We affirm the right of registered attendees of AMS meetings and conferences to participate fully in all scheduled program activities and we aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for everyone present. Any expressions of dissent must not inhibit conference activities, disrupt the full participation of registered attendees, nor pose a threat to the personal safety of others. If the AMS and meeting organizers determine that any event or action is disruptive or prohibited, they may remove those involved in the event or action from the meeting, revoke the registration of individuals involved, or take further appropriate actions, if deemed necessary.

Parking

Participants may park their cars on the GA Tech campus in parking lot W02 which is close to Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons and Skiles Building. The fee to park in lot W02 is \$15 per day. See the campus parking map here.

Travel

This meeting will take place on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

By Air: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is about 13 miles south of the Georgia Tech campus. By car, it takes less than 20 minutes to get to GA Tech from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, however it can take longer during rush hours. Please visit the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport web site for a list of airlines and cities with daily direct flights. Anyone traveling via air or train should purchase refundable tickets or get trip insurance to cover any unforeseen cancellations.

There are several options available for transportation to and from the airport. Several area hotels and motels offer courtesy shuttle service for guests traveling to and from the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It is recommended that guests make transportation arrangements with their hotel 72 hours in advance of traveling. Please inquire with your hotel in advance.

Directions to Campus: For directions to campus, please enter 266 4th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313 into your GPS or web browser.

By Bus: Greyhound is the regional bus system located 3 miles from campus. The Atlanta Greyhound Bus Station is located at 232 Forsyth St SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. Anyone traveling via air or train should purchase refundable tickets or get trip insurance to cover any unforeseen cancellations.

Local Transportation

Walking, biking, public transportation, ride share, and personal cars are recommended to get around campus and Downtown Atlanta.

By Bike: Atlanta’s bike sharing system includes bikes, electric bikes, and scooters. See more information here.

Weather

The average high temperature in Atlanta for March is in the mid 60's Fahrenheit and the average low is in the mid 40's. Visitors should be prepared for warm to cool weather and check weather forecasts in advance of their arrival.

Information for International Participants

Visa regulations are continually changing for travel to the United States. Visa applications may take from three to four months to process and require a personal interview, as well as specific personal information. International participants should view the important information about traveling to the U.S. found here. If you need a preliminary conference invitation in order to secure a visa, please send your request to epm@ams.org.

If you discover you do need a visa, the National Academies website provides these tips for successful visa applications:

  1. Visa applicants are expected to provide evidence that they are intending to return to their country of residence. Therefore,applicants should provide proof of “binding” or sufficient ties to their home country or permanent residence abroad. This may include documentation of the following: Family ties in home country or country of legal permanent residence, property ownership, bank accounts, or an employment contract or statement from employer stating that the position will continue when the employee returns.
  2. Visa applications are more likely to be successful if done in a visitor’s home country than in a third country.
  3. Applicants should present their entire trip itinerary,including travel to any countries other than the United States, at the time of their visa application.
  4. Include a letter of invitation from the meeting organizer or the US host, specifying the subject, location and dates of the activity, and how travel and local expenses will be covered.
  5. If travel plans will depend on early approval of the visa application, specify this at the time of the application.
  6. Provide proof of professional scientific and/or educational status (students should provide a university transcript).
